Alma 35:15

Now Alma, being grieved for the iniquity of his people, yea for the wars, and the bloodsheds, and the contentions which were amog them; and having been to declare the word, or sent to declare the word, among all the people in every city; and seeing that the hearts of the people began to wax hard, and that they began to be offended because of the strictness of the word, his heart was exceeding sorrowful;

Simple English

Alma was very sad about the sin of his people. He was sad about the wars, the killing, and the fighting. He had gone to preach in every city. He saw that people’s hearts were becoming hard. They began to get upset because God’s word was strict. His heart was very sad.

Paraphrase

Alma’s heart was heavy. He grieved over his people’s wickedness—the wars, the bloodshed, the constant fighting. He’d been sent to preach in every city, and he’d seen people’s hearts grow hard. They were offended by the demands of God’s word. It crushed him.
