The Book of Mormon

Alma 34:40

1830 Edition

And now my beloved brethren, I would exhort you to have patience, and that ye bear with all manner of afflictions; that ye do not revile against those who do cast you out because of your exceeding poverty, lest ye become sinners like unto them;

Simple English

My dear brothers, I tell you to have patience. Put up with all kinds of hard times. Do not speak badly about those who throw you out because you are very poor. If you do, you will become sinners like them.

Paraphrase

My dear brothers and sisters, I urge you to have patience. Endure every kind of hardship. Don’t curse those who throw you out because of your poverty, or you’ll become sinners just like them.
