for he saith, Thou art merciful O God, for thou hast heard my prayer, even when I was in the wilderness; yea, thou wast merciful when I prayed concerning those which were mine enemies, and thou didst turn them to me;

Simple English

He said: You are kind, God, because you heard my prayer even when I was in the desert. You were kind when I prayed about my enemies. You turned them toward me.

Paraphrase

“He said: ‘You are merciful, O God, because you heard my prayer even when I was out in the wilderness. You were merciful when I prayed for my enemies, and you turned them toward me.’
