Alma 32:2

And it came to pass that after much labor among them, they began to have success among the poor class of people; for behold, they were cast out of the synagogues, because of the coarseness of their apparel;

After a lot of hard work, they started having success with the poor people. These poor people had been kicked out of the churches because their clothes were too rough.

After much effort, they began to see results among the poor. These were people who had been kicked out of the synagogues because their clothes were too shabby.
