The Book of Mormon

Alma 31:27

1830 Edition

Behold, O God, they cry unto thee, and yet their hearts are swallowed up in their pride. Behold, O God, they cry unto thee with their mouths, while they are puffed up, even to greatness, with the vain things of the world.

Simple English

O God, they cry to you, but their hearts are swallowed up in their pride. O God, they cry to you with their mouths, but they are puffed up with the empty things of the world.

Paraphrase

Look at them, God! They cry out to you, but their hearts are drowning in pride. They call on you with their mouths while they’re puffed up with the empty treasures of this world.
