And it came to pass that the High Priest saith unto him, Why do ye go about perverting the ways of the Lord? Why do ye teach this people that there shall be no Christ, to interrupt their rejoicings? Why do ye speak against all the prophecies of the holy prophets?

Simple English

The high priest said to him: Why do you go around twisting the Lord’s ways? Why do you teach these people there will be no Christ and stop their happiness? Why do you speak against all the prophecies of the holy prophets?

Paraphrase

The high priest said to him, “Why are you going around twisting the Lord’s ways? Why do you teach people there will be no Christ, disrupting their joy? Why do you speak against the prophecies of the holy prophets?”
