Alma 2:16

Now Alma, he being the chief judge, and the governor of the people of Nephi, therefore he went up with his people, yea, with his captains, and chief captains, yea, at the head of his armies, against the Amlicites to battle;

Alma was the chief judge and governor of the Nephites. He went with his people to fight the Amlicites. He went with his captains and chief captains at the front of his armies.

Alma—who was both chief judge and governor—led his people into battle. He went at the head of his armies, with his captains and commanders beside him.
