thus they were a very indolent people, many of whom did worship idols, and the curse of God had fell upon them because of the traditions of their fathers; notwithstanding, the promises of the Lord were extended unto them, on the conditions of repentance;

So they were a very lazy people. Many of them worshiped idols. God’s curse had fallen on them because of what their fathers taught them. But God’s promises were still offered to them if they would change their hearts.

They were lazy. Many worshiped idols. God’s curse had fallen on them because of the lies passed down from their ancestors. Still, the Lord’s promises were open to them—if they would repent.
