Now there were many before him, and also there were many afterwards, but none were greater; therefore of him they have more particularly made mention.

Paraphrase

There were many who came before him, and many who came after, but none were greater. That’s why the scriptures pay special attention to him.

Many of the same phrases that appear in the Book of Mormon are also found in Smith’s writings. Among them is the recurring expression “more particularly."
