The Book of Mormon

Alma 11:25

1830 Edition

And now thou hast lied before God unto me. Thou saidst unto me, Behold these six onties, which are of great worth, I will give unto thee, when thou had it in thy heart to retain them from me; and it was only thy desire that I should deny the true and living God, that thou mightest have cause to destroy me. And now behold, for this great evil thou shalt have thy reward.

And now thou hast lied before God unto me. Thou saidst unto me, Behold these six onties, which are of great worth, I will give unto thee, when thou hadst it in thy heart to retain them from me; and it was only thy desire that I should deny the true and living God, that thou mightest have cause to destroy me. And now behold, for this great evil thou shalt have thy reward.

Simple English

“You just lied to God and to me. You said you would give me these six onties. They are worth a lot. But you planned to keep them from me. You just wanted me to say the true and living God does not exist. Then you would have a reason to destroy me. Because of this great evil, you will get what you deserve.”

Paraphrase

“You’ve just lied to me before God. You said, ‘Here are six onties—very valuable coins—I’ll give them to you,’ but you planned to keep them all along. You just wanted me to deny the true and living God so you’d have an excuse to destroy me. Well, for this evil, you’re going to pay.”
