nevertheless, there were some among them which thought to question them, that by their cunning devices they might catch them in their words, that they might find witness against them, that they might deliver them to the Judges, that they might be judged according to the law, and that they might be slain or cast into prison, according to the crime which they could make appear, or witness against them.

But some people wanted to question them. They used tricky plans to catch them in their words. They wanted to find proof against them. Then they could take them to the judges. The judges would judge them by the law. They might be killed or put in prison. It depended on what crime they could show or prove against them.

Still, some in the crowd wanted to interrogate them. They planned to use clever tricks to trap them in their words, to build a case against them. Then they could drag them before the judges, get them convicted under the law, and have them killed or thrown in prison—depending on what charges they could make stick.
