And it came to pass that Nephi, he that kept this last record, (and he kept it upon the plates of Nephi,) died, and his son Amos kept it in his stead; and he kept it upon the plates of Nephi also;

Simple English

Nephi kept this last record. He kept it on the plates of Nephi. Then he died. His son Amos kept the record after him. He also kept it on the plates of Nephi.

Paraphrase

Nephi, who’d been keeping these records on the plates, died. His son Amos took over, continuing the record on the same plates.
