And it hath become expedient that I, according to the will of God, that the prayers of those which have gone hence, which were the holy ones, should be fulfilled according to their faith, should make a record of these things which have been done;

Simple English

God wanted me to make this record. The holy people who died prayed that this would happen. Their prayers have been answered because of their faith.

God wants me to fulfill the faithful prayers of those who have died—the holy ones who prayed that this record would be made.
