And notwithstanding the threatenings and the oaths which Giddianhi had made, behold, the Nephites did beat them, insomuch that they did fall back from before them.

Even though Giddianhi had made threats and promises, the Nephites beat them. The robbers had to fall back.

Despite all of Giddianhi’s threats and oaths, the Nephites beat them back.
