but if it be not built upon my Gospel, and is built upon the works of men, or upon the works of the Devil, verily I say unto you, they have joy in their works for a season, and by and by the end cometh, and they are hewn down and cast into the fire, from whence there is no return;

Simple English

“But if it is not built on my gospel, and is built on the works of people or on the works of the devil, I tell you the truth. They will be happy in their works for a short time. Then the end will come. They are cut down and thrown into the fire. They cannot return from there.”

Paraphrase

“But if it’s not built on my gospel—if it’s built on human effort or the devil’s work—they’ll enjoy themselves for a while. But then the end comes. They’re cut down and thrown into the fire, and there’s no way back.”
