1830 Edition
And whoso knocketh, to him will he open, and the wise, and the learned, and they that are rich, which are puffed up because of their learning, and their wisdom, and their riches; yea, they are they, whom he despiseth; and save they shall cast these things away, and consider themselves fools before God, and come down in the depths of humility, he will not open unto them.

Changes
And whoso knocketh, to him will he open,; and the wise, and the learned, and they that are rich, whicho are puffed up because of their learning, and their wisdom, and their riches; —yea, they are they, whom he despiseth; and save they shall cast these things away, and consider themselves fools before God, and come down in the depths of humility, he will not open unto them.
Simple English
Anyone who knocks, he will open for them. But the wise and the educated and the rich are puffed up. They are proud of their education and wisdom and riches. They are the ones he doesn’t like. Unless they throw these things away and see themselves as foolish before God and become humble, he will not open the gate for them.
Paraphrase
Whoever knocks, he’ll let in. But the clever, the educated, the rich—those puffed up by their learning, their wisdom, their wealth—he despises them. Unless they throw those things away and see themselves as fools before God, unless they humble themselves completely, he won’t open the gate.
