And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of his roots;

A new branch will grow from Jesse’s family tree. A shoot will grow from his roots.

A branch will spring up from Jesse’s family line—a fresh shoot growing from ancient roots.
