And the days of the children of men were prolonged, according to the will of God, that they might repent while in the flesh; wherefore, their state became a state of probation, and their time was lengthened, according to the commandments which the Lord God gave unto the children of men. For he gave commandment that all men must repent; for he shewed unto all men that they were lost, because of the transgression of their parents.

Changes

Simple English

People lived longer so they could turn back to God while they were alive. God wanted them to have time to change. Their time became a test. The Lord God told all people they must turn back to him. He showed everyone they were lost because of what their parents did.

Paraphrase

God gave humanity time to live so they could repent while still alive. Their existence became a time of testing, and their lives were extended according to God’s commands. He commanded everyone to repent, because he showed all people that they were lost because of what their parents had done.
