And it came to pass that my father, Lehi, also found upon the plates of brass, a genealogy of his fathers; wherefore he knew that he was a descendant of Joseph; yea, even that Joseph whicho was the son of Jacob, whicho was sold into Egypt, and whicho was preserved by the hand of the Lord, that he might preserve his father, Jacob, and all his household from perishing with famine.

Simple English

My father Lehi also found his family history on the brass plates. So he knew he came from Joseph’s family. This was the same Joseph who was Jacob’s son, who was sold into Egypt. The Lord saved Joseph so he could save his father Jacob and all his family from starving.

Paraphrase
