1830 Edition

And now, my brethren, if ye were righteous, and were willing to hearken to the truth, and give heed unto it, that ye might walk uprightly before God, then ye would not murmur because of the truth, and say thou speakest hard things against us.

Changes

And now, my brethren, if ye were righteous, and were willing to hearken to the truth, and give heed unto it, that ye might walk uprightly before God, then ye would not murmur because of the truth, and say: tThou speakest hard things against us.

Simple English

My brothers, if you were righteous and willing to listen to the truth, you would follow it. You would walk uprightly before God. Then you would not complain about the truth and say I speak hard things against you.

Paraphrase

“Brothers, if you were living right and willing to listen to the truth—really paying attention so you could walk faithfully before God—you wouldn’t complain about the truth and accuse me of being too harsh.”
