For it came to pass that after I had desired to know the things that my father had seen, and believing that the Lord was able to make them known unto me; wherefore, as I sat pondering in mine heart, I was caught away in the spirit of the Lord, yea, into an exceeding high mountain, which I never had before seen, and upon which I never had before sat my foot.

Simple English
I wanted to know about the things my father had seen. I believed the Lord could show them to me. So as I sat thinking in my heart, I was taken away by the Spirit of the Lord to a very high mountain. I had never seen this mountain before or walked on it.

I, Nephi, wanted to understand what my father had seen. I believed the Lord could show me. While I was sitting and thinking about it, the Spirit took me away to an incredibly high mountain—a place I’d never been before.
