And he read, saying, Wo, wo unto Jerusalem! for I have seen thine abominations; yea, and many things did my father read concerning Jerusalem—that it should be destroyed, and the inhabitants thereof, many should perish by the sword, and many should be carried away captive into Babylon.

Simple English

He read: “Trouble, trouble to Jerusalem! I have seen your sins.” My father read many things about Jerusalem. It would be destroyed. Many people would die by the sword. Many would be taken away as prisoners to Babylon.

Paraphrase

The book's words burned in his mind: 'Jerusalem is doomed! I've seen your terrible deeds!' My father read how the city would be destroyed, many killed by the sword, and survivors dragged away to Babylon.
